First Poll

Hi everyone! Thanks for participating in my little poll. I wanted to start off very broad, with the First Amendment, because I feel a lot of people don't truly appreciate what it means to us as U.S. citizens. Without freedom of speech, there wouldn't be very many books, let alone a need for libraries as we know them. I found this site while researching for our Chronology paper and thought it was interesting to peruse.

Be back soon!

Good site. I found it curious that their research stated that the majority of people would want to limit parts of the First amendment. I believe people are afraid of things they do not understand or believe in. So, the natural reaction is to try and make it go away. Look at many banned book lists, they usually deal with issues that frighten people.

I agree bubbly, the part that people want to limit the first amendment rights due to the patriot act and other amendments makes me realize how much our democracy has slipped from our fingertips. Soon these laws that the congress passed, will hopefully not over rule our ALA Bill of Rights for any individual wanting information.
